BRECKSVILLE – Winning football games is one thing, winning in the classroom is even more important. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights football program does both!

For the second straight year the Bees were among only 19 teams in Ohio that were recognized as Academic All-Ohio teams. Among the individual award winners chosen to the Academic All-Ohio team, BBHHS senior linebacker/fullback Kyle Graham made the elite list of honorees.

The teams and individual players, from throughout the Buckeye State, were selected by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association (OHSFCA). They were announced late last year and are for the 2011 season.

Graham, a 4.3 GPA student and team co-captain, plans on continuing his football career at the next level. And with the marks that he has earned in the classroom he will do it at an outstanding university.

"This award means a lot to me because it is for academics as well as athletics." Graham said last weekend. "I feel like it is a good accomplishment."

Graham has proven that he tackles the books as aggressively as he tackled opposing ball carriers the past three seasons for the Bees. Next on his priority list, after taking mid-term exams next week, will be to select the college where he will continue his studies as well as the bone-jarring hits that he delivers on the gridiron.

"I'll be taking some visits in a few weeks. I'm going to Hillsdale, Dayton and CWRU. I've applied to The University of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon." Said Graham. "I'm going to visit all those places and decide once I get a feel for them."

Kyle is the son of John and Karen Graham. He is known for his no-nonsense approach to the game of football and that is a skill set that has served him well when it comes to academics.

"I think this honor for Kyle is a well-deserved one, one that was four years in the making. He is an exceptional leader on and off the field and in many different types of settings." Said Brecksville head coach Jason Black. "We are proud to have Kyle represent Brecksville football on the Academic All-Ohio team."

Over the past two regular seasons the Bees have a 13-7 regular season record. Intelligent players are good players. The teams success level in the classroom during the week has enabled them to set winning marks on the field come Friday nights.

"The team award is special and we're very proud of that as well. It just goes to show you that we truly have an excellent student-athlete here at BBHHS. Not only can our kids excel on the field, but they are always leaders in their classroom work as well." Black said. "We are truly blessed to have these exceptional student-athletes represent the Brecksville football family in the classroom, athletic fields and in life."
